The following five posts are from a project from which this blog takes it's title, 'M-aching to play'.

Influenced by instructional children's craft books of the 1970's; I explored my imagination and tactile nature to create work drawing from my own exploration of making and also traditional/'dated' craft practices. 

Houses

Cork board, uhu, wire, fantasy film, quilled paper and pva.

Spoon and Spatula

Wooden cooking equipment, corks, seed pots, felting wool, fabric, felt pads and uhu.

Ram, bush and snail

Quilled paper and pva.

Prawn, crab snails and slug

Quilled paper, shells, make-up sponges and pegs.

Knights in a pipe-cleaner castle

Pipe-cleaners, video box and uhu.

Pencils on paper.

A series of collages composed of extracts from 1970's instructional children's craft book and a book of minerals printed in the 1970's. After looking at animators such as Ivor Wood (Postman Pat 1981, Paddington 1975), I became drawn to the eerie expectation generated by the periods of inaction, characters slow movements and long unbroken takes. I wanted these collages to emulate a silent wait and a sense of expectation.
